Fagor

Fagor Automation controls have been installed on European and Far Eastern machine tools since the 1970s. Older Fagor systems in particular require specific knowledge to service and maintain correctly.

Fagor controls were popular on European machine tools from the 1980s through to the early 2000s, particularly on Spanish-built machines (Cairos, Anayak) and some Far Eastern OEM installations. Fagor's 8025 and 8030 series remain in service on many older machines that are still economically viable to maintain.

The Fagor 8050 series — available in both milling (8050/M) and turning (8050/T) variants — was Fagor's flagship platform for many years. It uses a custom operating system on proprietary hardware, and fault diagnosis requires understanding of the Fagor-specific alarm system and I/O architecture.

Key service issues on older Fagor systems include CMOS battery depletion causing parameter loss, display failures on models using CRT monitors (increasingly rare but still seen), and keypad failures from worn membrane switches. The Fagor Programming and Documentation System (FPDS) is required for some parameter-level tasks.

Fagor Automation still operates and supports legacy products, though new machine builds using Fagor controls are uncommon in the UK market. For legacy machines, the challenge is often component obsolescence rather than technical complexity.
