Mazak Corporation, founded in 1919 in Nagoya, Japan by Sadakichi Yamazaki, initially produced pots and pans before transitioning to mat-making and then woodworking machinery in the 1920s. The company ultimately shifted its focus to metalworking machine tools. Despite experiencing setbacks during World War II, the company, under the management of Sadakichi Yamazaki’s sons during the 1950s and 1960s, expanded its operations globally, particularly in the American market, bringing revolutionary changes to the industry.

During the period of 1975 to 2000, Mazak Corporation focused on penetrating the European market, which proved to be initially challenging. However, with the establishment of new sales companies and the development of the Mazatrol T-1, the world’s first conventional CNC system for lathes, the company started gaining traction. In 1985, the company changed its name from Yamazaki Machinery Works, Ltd. to Yamazaki Mazak Corporation, solidifying its place as a key player in the global manufacturing industry.

The company continued to expand its operations across Europe, Sweden, Italy, France, Denmark, and Germany, while also establishing technology centers in various locations. In the early 2000s, it expanded its presence in countries like Taiwan, Korea, Czech, and China. Despite the passing of Chairman and CEO Teruyuki Yamazaki in 2011, the company continued to grow, opening various technology centers and introducing new concepts such as the MAZAK iSMART Factory and the MAZAK SMARTBOX in collaboration with Cisco.

In subsequent years, Mazak Corporation continued its trajectory of growth, introducing new technologies such as the MAZATROL SmoothAi CNC system and the 3D direct diode laser processing machine FG-220 DDL. In 2019, Tomoshisa Yamazaki was appointed as the new Chairman and CEO, and Takeshi Yamazaki became the new President of the corporation, solidifying the company’s leadership for the upcoming years. The company also continued to innovate with the development of the next-generation MAZATROL SmoothAi CNC system with MAZATROL Twin.
